#14. january's second wind with annie
read on for stream links, an interview with annie, and our annotated tracklists : )
second wind fammmmmm!!! dispatch number 2 of 3 coming at you liveeee hehe been back in the groove to get these out before the next show this weekend!! i can’t waitttt to share more about that later this week: ) i’m happy to have the writing itch back and to have my brain wanting to share in this way again, because for the last few months it was really hard to fathom writing anything down. turns out i was craving more visual creative expression vs words - specifically i’ve been making some collages and cards and vignette-y type scenes out of cut paper. it’s so fun and addicting, sometimes i find myself up at 130am covered in a rainbow of lil paper scraps and pieces of clear double-sided tape, just sooo happy and focused and blissed out trying to cut the perfect detail of my dog’s leash lol. it’s nice to be able to jump from outlet to outlet, listening to your gut about what feels most the most authentic and fun means of expression in a given moment - i’ve dreamt of times like these! < 3
ok so it’s a january show recap! i was in my earnest luverrrrzzz type beat bag with my set lol so please enjoy : ) perhaps you can consider it a then-very early and now slightly late valentine’s day-themed hour heh s/o to all the luvazzzz out there. and i was joined in january by very special guest annie!! who tore it up!! we were positioning this show in our hearts as the creativity tone setter of the year and i have to say, almost 8 weeks into 2026 i think its momentum is still pushing us forward with the doing!! the toxe, the e-bike bangers, r&b classics, being put on to so much new to me like Tommy february6??… bruh. THANK YOU annie!!! for second wind-ing with your whole heart. s/o the friends who were in the building (booth) too, including second wind alums medha, ash, and cj!! < 3333
read on below for stream links, an interview with annie, and annotated tracklists from both of us : ) enjoy, and see you back at the lot in march for the next episode of second wind. special guest announcement coming tomorrow……
with so much love and gratitude, always!

january’s second wind ft. special guest annie < 3
*lightly edited for clarity : )
1) Annie! Tell me about your set! What did you have in mind when you were preparing the tracks you wanted to play? What energy were you trying to capture?
Hello! I had in mind “friendship” “freedom” “fun!” Tried to ride an inquisitive + playful + emotional wave.
2) Is there a song in particular that you were super excited to play? Why?
Not specifically… but was excited to take us from exalted vibes to core feelings mode!! And excited to play songs with friends. Naturally.
3) Anything you wanted to play that you didn’t have time to?
I had “Come On Home” by the Lijadu Sisters as an alt goodnight closer. It feels like a good song to shepherd you into the next life.
4) What’s your earliest musical memory? Is there someone/somewhere/something you think of or credit with bringing music into your life?
In and around the home… my parents + the internet. Parents = Enya + Teresa Teng + Sarah Brightman / internet = Limewire Napster and Pirate Bay→ tunes…all the possibilities!
5) What was the last music experience (song/album, concert, DJ set, etc) that really moved you. Why?
OK Williams @ Nowadays – full holy dance floor ascendance (ascenDANCE?) – and before that, Ichiko Aoba at King’s Theatre, seated, voice & instruments carrying through the air, magical deliverance to our ears. Whew!
6) When do you listen to music most? During what activity?
When looking out my window, I look out the window a lot. And sometimes I do it with Taki. Headphones on… time for thoughts and feelings to coalesce.
7) If you’re getting in the car with someone, what’s one song you’d throw on right now?
If we were tired happy coming back from a long voyage, “Hammond Song” by The Roches.
8) What’s your latest interest/obsession, music-related or otherwise?
I can’t stop watching pole dance vids, my entire TikTok feed is filled with beautiful ppl with the sleeper builds of the century. They are so strong, so lithe, so stunning.
9) What’s the most recent thing that’s made you feel inspired?
You know, it’s been tough in the winter to seek out the glimmers but I would say this book of kites that I’ve had forever and never really looked through. Each morning i open it to a random new page and read about a new kite + the artist that created it.
10) You just participated as a vendor in a cute valentine’s day popup and made these sickass sewn and constructed charms!! Why make charms? What was the most fun part of making them? And the biggest challenge?
Ah yes! We return to friendship : ) Our friend Tiffany asked me to do the popup; she and I have discussed in depth, over the course of our friendship, barriers to Making and the sheer vulnerability around Doing and Creating. So it became a fun project because you know what? Anything and everything can be a charm if you want it to be. A charm is a keepsake and a charm is a totem and a charm is a tchotchke. And a wellspring of motivation for me, it has been revealed, is friendship. Like doing your show.
11) We recently had a convo about us both having cravings to make, but having multiple creative outlets we’re dabbling in simultaneously to choose from. What creative outlet or discipline is calling to you lately? Is it something new you’ve never tried before, or something you’ve done in the past you’d like to return to?
Ooh la la maybe I’ll return to ceramics for the first time since 2019! Or sit down and actually practice piano. And u know what? Maybe I will overcome my fear of baking. Who knows…
annotated tracklists :)
hour 1: nazuk———
long enough to get strong enough - vanessa amara
if you read this substack or listen to my show you know i love vanessa amara. what touches me especially is their meditative repetition of lyrics, in the case of this song: “long enough to get strong enough” < 3 strength takes time
looking for love - jaheim
o, to be chosen! wat a feeling.
can we talk (live) - new impressionz
hometown crush type beat heh
take a chance - brenton wood
i learned about brenton wood via an ig story from clairo when he passed about a year ago. what a phenomenal writer. i listened to a bunch of his songs around then and loved this one in particular about asking your love interest to take a chance on you < 3 it’s cute and straightforward and honest
they gonna talk - beres hammond
idk why but every time i hear this i cant help but picture myself like four decades from now, grown and sexy era, dancing to this at night somewhere warm lol
send me - tirzah
tirzah writes the greatest love songs. maybe you wouldn’t consider them love songs in the traditional sense (what is that even lol) but there is honesty and humanity in her words and emotions. “let me heal and now i’m sure” - what a bar. to love and to be loved takes so much.
juna - clairo
yea i fuckin love this song lmao. more honest, straightforward writing. “with you there’s no pretending” and “you make me wanna, try on feminine” ?! yeah.
devotion - tirzah + coby sey
another tirzah love song ft regular collaborator coby sey. sparse and beautiful, almost ominous in its musicality. exposed, plodding, and confessional in its writing. it’s about layin it all out there, fingers crossed.
i couldn’t love you more - sade
< 3
robbery - fastmoneyfendi
the song i heard live that made me a fan :) “ain’t no better feelin than when u beside me” *editor’s note lol: thank u myles for asking for id on this, i left it off the original tracklist on accident oops hehe
will you still love me tomorrow - amy winehouse
i spent a chunk of a 2024 drive back from detroit to nyc revisiting amy winehouse’s full discography for the first time in my 30s, and wow, was she saying some shit lol. this is a cover, so it’s not her writing, but the feeling she imbues in the song as she halts the tempo to a slow march……… fokkkkk lol.
real thing - alex g
my mf goat did it again. your reminder that u could be lookin everywhere for the real thing but it’s very possible its just been hangin by the door
right down the line - gerry rafferty
an older song about loving the ride or die-est ride or die < 3 confessed over song because the artist couldn’t say it in words to their face? romance!!!!!
for me (remix) - loe shimmy + brent faiyaz
the drama….. the concept….. their unexpectedly complementary voices…. a masterclass in remix. emotive piano and lazer pew pews - perfect. a car being driven at night begs for this song to be played.
bliss - tyla
moved to tears by the blissful feeling one brings to your life? it’s like that sumtimes < 3 different sound for miss tyla that i love, rinsed this when it dropped and come back to it often.
everyone falls asleep in their own time - sophia stel
: ) they do!
fine again - tirzah
closing with a fave tirzah love song, just listen to it < 3
hour 2: annie———
eden - sarah brightman
one of my dad’s favs…mystical feel
_kiss_one more time - tommy february6
a very formative artist for me!! love her so much. u know how we contain multitudes? tomoko kawase’s worldbuilding opened up personas for me in high school…check out her other project tommy heavenly6 too.
true - toxe
just a bop. i like that her songs sound cold, like they all take place in the snow
do yoga - rae sremmurd
precious showed me this song :) ~~~ love the weeeoooo in the background; a grounding tune.
tus ojos - belanova
what can i say…i love pop music !
lambo dreams - lor choc
lor choc’s voice scratches an itch…
push - rs home demo 12/84; instrumental
contemplative moody interlude. we are climbing down the hill, the breeze is gentle. many lessons learned, many adventures ahead…
break free - esp
#1 on my summer ebiking playlist!!! let’s zip zip into the wind! your hair is blowing back and there is a big smile on your face.
tiny dancer - dyltwosix
or maybe this was #1 on summer ebiking playlist. love the exhilaration u feel in the top of your chest
prototype - outkast
gently, beautifully a classic, soft streaming sunshine. love is alien, love is familiar; love is universal, love is personal
try sleeping with a broken heart - alicia keys
i love songs that sound like the protagonist is wailing from the bottom of a well…the drama! really brings out my venus in scorpio…the ad libbing in the end is the cherry on top. very “no worries if not”
on my cash out - marsh crane
glittery anticipation…let’s go!! do you feel it?
like a white bat in a box, dead matters go on - melt-banana
there is no resisting the nodding along to this one…and in the middle of the song they take u to a secret room before releasing you back out into the world once more
liar liar - lm.c
this is from the annals of teenhood, lm.c was my first concert ever. we are entering the angst / release section of the program nowwww
i’ll die for you - lil wayne
when you (nazuk) & cj left my house and joe stayed behind, i showed him this song…we talked about how we love that quality of emotional strain in peoples’ voices. like in bjork hyperballad “safe up here with you” as if she really were projecting off the top of that cliff. lil wayne vulnerability o’clock HITS!
ギブス - sheena ringo
when she goes ~i wanna be with you how can you not feel your heart hit your ribcage?
all in me - brandy
she is the blueprint. i’ve been doing a nice listen-through of her albums this winter and keep returning to this track with its icy sparkly background, sexy cool determination > funny lil breakdown
relationship (feat. future) - young thug
imagine…you’re doing your dishes. the song is hitting…the suds are sudding. the mundane feels big...your destiny is in your hands. you’re a winner. you’re a star
my love (feat. freeway & juelz santana) - the diplomats
love tha big beat…and when he says “rules and parameters”...i dunno why, but…sheesh!
